lyrics

Short Life

I waited a long life and though
They waited their short lives with me
I grew before long a tad weary
And left them children to grow

Age came for me in a wild wrap
In a bouquet of dead eras
That sent soft slow wisps of tundra
To blind my only standing map

Now all I knew lays choking
Figures balance every higher
From my arms comes a strange laughter
Birds fall on my head make me king

My troubled nights are happy days
That really make me feel alive
But through this mess I hear wives
Calling back some kind of husband in the haze

They could be trees with many arms
Give love as thousands of others
Or they could be horses or strangers
Or waving doors on dying barns

If love is blind am I also
Have I been chasing memories
Is that why the day grows weary
And leaves us but a sickly glow

All my anguish looks to the sky
And has found its hopeless bull’s eye
In a daze I’ll lift my last gun
And fire fire fire at the sun
